I'm using a Vista laptop and getting a few errors that I could really use help with.

First of all thanks to all in advance that try to help me with these errors.

I have tried using Internet Explorer and firefox numerous amounts of times to try and download Maple Story, DoMo, flashget, StoneAge 2, and other .exe files. However whenever I try to save or run the .exe file after it has downloaded, nothing happens. I've tried getting a file association fix but it comes as a zipped file and whenever I try to extract the files it says that I have to change the permission to that specific file in order to be able t extract. I have tried everything and the frustration grows.

Here is a picture of what the icons of the .exe files looks like when it's done downloading in the download manager(in this case the example is DoMo).

These are the files I believe will fix the .exe error.
Reset and Fix Broken Windows Vista File Ext and Type Associations (Include EXE, COM, SYS, ZIP, LNK, Folder, Drive) » My Digital Life

These are the files I believe will fix the .zip permission error but they open in new window with letters.

All help is greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Hello DarkEssence, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You might give this a try instead to restore the default .exe file settings.

Restore the .exe file association in Windows Vista, after incorrectly associating it with another application

Hope this helps,

Thank you for the reply. However isn't this method used when the .exe files are associated to a different property?Hmmm and I'm having a bit of a problem finding how to configure those settings in the link that you provided. Thanks again for your help.

What error do you get when you try to run the programs you download?

It's only for .exe installation files. and I don't get an error they just won't save or run.

I'd be checking your antivirus software and your firewall to see if they are set to 'protect you from malicious files on the web" which means they may be blocking executable files from downloading.

I'd *also* run a full system scan ASAP - it might be a virus / rootkit that is preventing this as well.

Well this computer has an expired AVG virus protection system and I don't think there is a firewall. Or at least a user set-up one. What can I use to do a free system scan?

Re: I'm using a Vista laptop and getting a few errors that I could really use help wi

Sorry for the bump, but I am new to the forums still and I don't know of any other way to revive this 2 day, 5 page topic. I could still really use the he and thanks to all of those who he tried to help so far. I found out something new as well. When the .exe files are downloading(if I save them and not run them) I can see them appear to the destination that I have chosen, but after it downloads they just dissapear.
