Vista ultimate sleep mode question

Hi so I really like the vista sleep mode, but I have a question. Would using sleep mode often cause a slow down? I don't want my computer to be noticeably slower. I have vista ult. 3 gig ram, 9800 GTX, Intel e6400.

also how can I make a shortcut for sleep...like win key+s for example.

Re: Vista ultimate sleep mode question

Hello Isikh, and welcome to Vista Forums.

It should not affect the performance of your computer except that it will be faster to startup when you want to use it instead of from a complete startup.

This tutorial will help show you how to create a sleep shortcut.

Sleep Shortcut

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: Vista ultimate sleep mode question

Strange, it puts my Vista Ultimate edition to sleep when I use it. You can use the link in the Tip box at the top of the tutorial for how to assign a keyboard shortcut for this Sleep shortcut.

Re: Vista ultimate sleep mode question

Ahh I found out some good info...this is the path for sleep I discovered... %windir%\System32\rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState

And all u have to do is make a shortcut and viola it works. You will have a shortcut to sleep and you can place it wherever you want to. I tested it; I have the shortcut in my quick launch....if you want to be lazy and don't want to make the shortcut yourself you can do this...for VISTA ONLY! Go to this link download this gadget... Windows Live Gallery

Then start up the gadget and hit options/preferences.
You will see something that says Vista Quick launch bar, under that it says Add shortcut: there are options for shutdown, lock computer, log off, sleep etc. Click anyone's you want and they will be added to the quick launch and that is it! Any questions or anything ask away! If necessary I will post a picture tutorial too, that is if anyone requests!

Re: Vista ultimate sleep mode question

Isikh,

That is the one for Hibernate (Suspend). It will work to put your computer to sleep, but you must disable hibernation first. If you would, test it with hibernation enable on your computer to see how it works.

Google:
%windir%\System32\rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState - Google Search

Disable Hibernation:
Hibernation - Enable or Disable
