application that will tell windows to use all CORES?

Hello

I have a QUAD PC Q6660 with 4 cores

There is an application that will setup my Windows Vista 32bit to use all cores instead of only 1 ?

in the system hardware vista see that i got 4 cores but im not sure its using all of them.

I know that in linux there is such thing that called instance that can use all cores while working on the pc

thanks

Re: application that will tell windows to use all CORES?

I do not believe there are any programs that will force the use of all your cores on applications made for 1 core. The application itself must be made to handle as many cores as it is made to have.

In reality, most modern programs that would benefit from more cores already have support for them. Other programs like MS Word would not really benefit from more than 1 core.

Anyway, to check to see if your system is using all 4 cores, you could bring up the task manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and select the performance tab. It will show the CPU usage in 4 little windows for each core.

Hope this helps

you can select the amount of cores vista uses on boot up...
but there is no software to force the cores...

Which version of Vista is it? I think the lower editions are limited to 2 cores, aren't they? Or did I read that somewhere strange ?

No, the Home versions support one physical CPU with as many cores as it can fit. Business and Ultimate can support up to 2 physical CPUs.

The RAM is what is also limited.

Home Basic x64 is limited to 8GB
Home Premium x64 - 16GB
Business and Ultimate - 128GB+
