I haven't heard anything or seen any rumours... I don't think they will, to be honest, as Windows 7 is apparently coming out in early 2010.

I'm happy with how Vista runs with SP1 anyway. I won't be too bothered whether or not they bring a SP2 out for it.

Well, isn't the rule of thumb that they bring out a new SP for every OS every year or so?

Oh I am pretty sure, there will be a service pack 2 and it will have eye candy in it too, Windows 7 could get delayed and given the lukewarm reception that Vista received from many XP enthusiasts plus the fact that Linux is starting to appear in over the counter retail machines, if MS does not keep its installed Vista user base happy and attract XP diehards to Vista it could have one big problem with Linux, not to mention the fact that Intel is on such a roll at the moment it is not impossible they might decide to go after the operating systems market or at least sections of it.

Best and Warm Regards

Adrian makes a good point with Linux based machines being sold in retail. Not to mention intel and there possible role in the OS Market. Intel is taking over everything. This will be interesting to see what happens. M$ needs to have a solid release here, and soon if they want to keep everyone happy and return customers.

If that were the case, considering Windows XP was released in October of 2001, we should be darn near SP6 or SP7 by now instead of SP3.

There is no way that Intel is going to get into the OS market. At least not writing an OS from scratch.

Until there is a flavor of Unix that is easy to install, easy to use, and has a large amount of consumer type applications available, we won't see any huge gains in market share.

Well, intel is already developing a linux version for internal use.... who knows...they might eventually release it for consumers as well....

as for the next SP....I wouldn't expect it until late 2009 or the start of 2010 at the very earliest.... wouldn't surprise me if they release the SP after the release of the next version of windows...IF that ships in time.....
