Booting up issues

I got myself vista64 and have noticed the boot up process is extremely slow, it takes 3-5 mins to boot itself up to Windows. Is this normal? I read somewhere that it's going to be like this for a while until Vista learns the boot process?

I just some how stumbled onto this site and thought I'll ask and sincerely apologies if this has been asked.

What I have noticed is that once my G11 keyboard lights up, it starts to load windows up.

Thanks for the help.

Re: Booting up issues

Hello Xiled, welcome to Vista forums!

I believe some have had problems with Vista recognizing G11s.
I'm sure others with experience with them will help if I'm correct about that.
It will speed up as "SuperFetch" learns what to load at startup in anticipation of your needs.

Re: Booting up issues

HI i have the G15 and i cant say i have noticed anything wrong with the way my system boots.. although i almost never notice any problems at boot cos of the speed of my system, maybe its a problem with G11's only, however what you might need to do is enter bios and in there you should find an option to set the you keyboard to boot via bios rather than the O/S
this will also help when you need to select things like safe mode as it is not possible to navigate boot some boot menus while the keyboard is sett to boot via the O/S

Re: Booting up issues

Thanks for the help guys.

I went to the BIOS setup so that it loads up with the hard drive first. I couldn't find the part where to config the USB keyboard to load from BIOS instead of O/S.

I am hoping this booting issue goes away, it's driving me insane that it takes 5mins to load up. My spare computer with 32bit vista doesnt have any problem loading up quickly.

Forgot to add that I formatted my comp before installing Vista and have been installing drivers here and there.

Re: Booting up issues

Hello again.

Also, contrary to popular belief; disabling UAC slows down Vista considerably!

Re: Booting up issues

This is what I have done and what I found out.

Using 4gig ram = loading up vista is normal
Using 6gig ram = same as above
Using 8gig ram = slow booting

Anyone know why this would be the case? All those test was done with my G11 Keyboard.

Re: Booting up issues

It shouldn't be a RAM problem because I've got 8Gb and besides my little boot problem (different to yours - and getting fixed tomorrow) my system boots quickly. It is weird that your tests show otherwise?!

Re: Booting up issues

Xiled,

Have you updated to the latest BIOS F11 version for your motherboard to see if that helps.

I do not know if you mobo is the rev 1.0, 2.0, or 2.1 version, but here is the link for the rev 2.1 one. The links for the others are at the top of this link under the model number. You might also want to install the latest chipset drivers to.

GIGABYTE - Support - Motherboard - BIOS - GA-P35C-DS3R (rev. 2.1)

Hope this helps,
Shawn
