"Setup stopped working" with Lots of installs

I'm new to Vista and this is a brand new computer, although I know it has problems. Something is up with the motherboard. I've already called to get it replaced. The network card just stopped working. I've got a usb wired card until HP service can get this fixed on the 29th.

I get this error immediately after trying to install. It pops right up and says "[program name] Setup has stopped working" "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

I got this with at least the following programs:

PeaZip
TomTom Home (it's the software that updates my gps)
7zip (I finally got this one working by installing an older version, but had to try a few files first).
Yahoo Widgets

That's all I could think of for now. It's getting really frustrating. And I've already had the BSOD once. I've only had the computer for 4 days! ouch.

Any advice is appreciated. This is Vista Home Premium X64 SP1 and I ran all the updates right away. I also took off the Symantec software. I'll use some, but I'm gonna use the one I get from work. It doesn't have all that extra phishing junk. I just want it to keep an eye out for viruses.

I would not try and do any software fixes until you replacemant hardware arrives. If you have a motherboard issue it may be contributing to all of your other issues.

Well what do you know. That solved pretty much every problem I've had. No more "corrupt" files and all my installs seem to be working just fine.

I forgot about this post till now. But anyway, it solved the problem. I really haven't had any issues since other than a networking issue. I needed to transfer some files from a failing laptop. Do to time constraints I hooked my external hard drive up and transferred them that way. I needed a backup of that stuff anyway. Will be setting up a sync with that soon.
