My Issues with Vista, any remedies? Applications stealing focus in Vista!?

Hi there..

I've been using Vista Business x64 now since last March, just swapped HDs and I'm running Vista x64 Ult. now. Over all a stable OS, I've only gotten 2 BSOD and I found Virtual PC 2007 to run my legacy applications. All works well.
There are few things tho that I have noticed and of course a few "disappointments".

1) Overall improvements from a user point of view over Windows XP are very hard to see besides a sleeker looking Aero theme.

2) Applications Stealling Focus, yes the best and latest and greatest from Microsoft doesn‘t have a setting in any control panel to allow me to play a full screen game and run something in the background on my multicore CPU without me risking getting thrown out the game and a #)($ popup or another application is presented to me. How is this possible at this day and age!? TweakVi free ed. doesn‘t seem to have this setting.

3) Taking 3-4x the hard disk space, from a purely user perspective where‘s the extra code and bloat working for me?

4) No Tweak tool to set default Program files / (x86) to D or E or what ever. I tried changing the registry entry and that worked but it also broke some already installed applications by windows. Again, why at this day and age and with 15 year of Windows development didn‘t MS allow some tuning on this part!?

5) Fonts are very blurry, can use Clear Type Tuning to fix but now in x64 Ultimate my fonts are getting blurry again after the laptop resumes from standby. Restart is needed to fix that.

I‘m using Vista, I don‘t hate it but nor do I love it. I‘m clearly disappointed with it, I was expecting some notable improvements. I‘m sure there are several under the hood, memory tuning, security etc. Not that I have checked recently but I‘m sure there are some but again from a user perspective they‘re hard to see and TweakUI isn‘t out for Vista so now with the latest and greatest have to shut down all applications and background tasks to ensure I get a smooth gaming experience. Something went wrong at MS and I‘m ready for a new OS already.

If any one has any great tips or tricks, especially for the focus problem, please post.

Simon

Well to awnser to your topic, concerning the applications that are steeling focus, you might look in the respective application's settings for turning off notifications or check for full screen applications before notifying.
