Vista Boot Up Problem

Vista Restart Loop

Hi all,

I've been getting some troubles with my Vista computer booting up. Whenever I restart it (or even turn it off and then back on without leaving it for a long while), it will crash during the loading screen, and then restart, and then crash, creating an endless loop unless I boot up in Safe Mode. Once I'm up in Safe Mode, and go to restart, there are no troubles at all, and I can use the computer normally. So, for the time being, I must for boot up in Safe Mode and then restart in normal mode.

Occasionally, I get a blue screen before the boot up fails and the computer shuts down, only to restart and continue the endless cycle.

When I do get to the desktop (using the Safe Mode trick I mentioned earlier), I may get an error message, containing this info:

I've tried using this solution:

However, it is to no avail. In order to complete this repair installation, Windows has to restart my computer several times. This is a problem because, well, because of everything I've said thus far: I can't simply restart the computer.

Thankyou for any assistance.

I've done so, mostly. I'm embarrassed to say I don't really know how to find my hard drives or motherboard's specs yet. I'm kind of a computer geek-in-training at the moment, so please bear with me. :zip:

You might try installing and posting the results from the sysinfo tool recently released.

Here's the URL: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/17...info-tool.html

It may give us some insight on how we can help you.

I'll run that and get back to you guys, thanks.

EDIT: Isn't working for me. Continues to give me error messages when I try to click anything on the program, something about .NET.

Hi Droids_Rule,

It appears you are missing Vista ServicePack1, You can find links to download it from here http://www.vistax64.com/windows-updates/140470-why-sp1-may-not-available-you-how-get.html

Can you also copy/paste the error you are getting with SysInfo in your reply? ;)

Cheers
Steven

Edit: I just looked up the Microsoft BSOD database for the BCCode you provided and it looks very serious

Problem signature:

Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3
Locale ID: 1033
Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: c000021a

The Info about the BCCode from Microsoft:

The STATUS_SYSTEM_PROCESS_TERMINATED bug check has a value of 0xC000021A. This means that an error has occurred in a crucial user-mode subsystem.

Cause

This error occurs when a user-mode subsystem, such as WinLogon or the Client Server Run-Time Subsystem (CSRSS), has been fatally compromised and security can no longer be guaranteed. In response, the operating system switches to kernel mode. Microsoft Windows cannot run without WinLogon or CSRSS. Therefore, this is one of the few cases where the failure of a user-mode service can shut down the system.

Resolution

Try updating to Vista ServicePack 1, If this fails then commence Virus Scanning and check for Spyware immediately!! A list of virus scanners and spyware removal programs can be found here http://www.vistax64.com/system-security/162362-antivirus-scanners-internet-security-tools.html

Because bug check 0xC000021A occurs in a user-mode process, the most common culprits are third-party applications or viruses. If the error occurred after the installation of a new or updated device driver, system service, or third-party application, the new software should be removed or disabled. Contact the manufacturer of the software about a possible update.

My Computer

You're right, I do not currently have Service Pack 1. It had never shown up in my Wndows Update. I manually installed it a few days or so ago, but some of these restart loops see to roll back my system, and it looks like I lost the installation as my computer no longer says it is running on SP 1. I'll download it again right away.

I've also recently installed the free AVG version and have run several scans. I picked up what might have been a Trojan horse and supposedly removed it, but I'll run another check immediately. I'll also run ESET NOD32 program that was so reccomended if necessary.

EDIT:

Here's the error message for that system spec scanner. To be perfectly honest, however, it's the absoloute least of my worries right now.

Hello Droids_Rule, I'm glad to see you getting it sorted!
I knew a separate thread would be better.

I just downloaded SP 1 and saved it to my desktop to install, but I'm a bit concerned about installing it. It says, unfortunately, that the computer will restart several times during installation, and this has me worried because of my restart troubles. Is it possible (and this is coming from a very unlearned person in this field), to perform the installation in Safe Mode and make sure each restart during the installation is, again, made in Safe Mode?

I ask this because, when in Safe Mode, my comptuer has no problems restarting. I wonder if there's a setting that permanently puts me in Safe Mode until I go to deactivate it, and if so, if it's possible to run the installation successfully during it?

Sorry if that's a terribly akward or just plain wrong question, it's just the first possible work-a-round that came to mind. If you guys have any better ideas, then by all means please share them.

Thanks for all the help so far, guys. Really, thanks.

Well, I've tried everything I can. I tried installing SP1 in Safe Mode and out of it to no avail, and no virus scan is catching anything. I think I'm just going just to take it to the local Circuit City and get it reformated.

Hello again.

Since you are obviously trying to learn how to do this stuff, why don't you re-install yourself?

Keep us informed!
