| vista home premium | missing disk space we had to buy a new system at work. none of the business software will work with vista so we wiped out vista and formatted the hard drive and installed XP. the 320 gig capacity drive now only shows 137 gig capacity. any thoughts as to what happened and what do i do about it?thanks! |

| Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: missing disk space Sounds like you installed using a pre-SP anything XP disk. If so you basically have one of two choices, 1. Install SP2 or SP3 so that XP can "see" the rest of the drive. Then use the remainder as another partition or use a 3rd party (Partition Magic, etc) program to merge the two if you only want one. 2. Either find a disk with at least SP1 (or is it 1a); or make your own using nlite, nLite - Deployment Tool for the bootable Unattended Windows installation and slipstream SP2 or SP3 into it, and then re-install XP. |

| vista home premium | Re: missing disk space Hey yawl, i tried option #1 that stormy13 told me about and that did not work. The system still says that the hard drive only has 137 gig capacity. In this forum and others i have read some posts that makes me wounder if i need to do the F6 during XP installation and install a SATA/RAID driver for the motherboard. A number of posts say that the driver loaded for Vista can not be reconized by XP. Prior to doing stormy13's step #1 i got the XP driver package from the maker of the motherboard and that took care of all of the other devices built into the board but i'm not sure if it installed any kind of a SATA/RAID driver. Any ideals and warnings would be great! |
