Vista Desktop Wallpaper Fit options, I thought there were 5 options?

When I used to change my wallpaper I had 5 options to fit the image to the screen, cant remember them exactly but they were something like; Stretch to screen, fit horizontal, fit vertical, centered, and tiled.

Why is it now that I only have; Centered, Tiled and stretch to screen?

Was this an update because this is really annoying!?

It was much easier to fit the wallpaper to screen without stretching it when I could fit horizontal and vertical?

Why can I not do this now?

Hi Lersince, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Do you have DreamScene installed yet? They will be added afterwards.

DreamScene

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi lersince1991 and welcome to the forums

In the incarnations of Windows that I have used (Win 98SE, Win XP, Vista and, at work, Win 2000), there have ever only been the 3 options, viz 'Fit to screen', 'Tile' and 'Center'. I have never heard of the other options you mention - are you sure that they existed? Perhaps they were part of a 3rd party wallpaper sequencer/customiser.

I have just seen Shawns reply - the 3rd party program would appear to be 'DreamScene', which, since it only works with the Ultimate and I only have Home Premium version of Vista, would explain why I haven't heard of or seen the other options you mentioned.

Re: Vista Desktop Wallpaper Fit options, I thought there were 5 options?

I am 100% sure that I had these extra fitting options and I don't recall installing additional software.

I am unsure of how dreamscene has relevance to this issue though?
I do have dreamscene installed but since my graphics card on my laptop cannot run it, I have disabled it in windows features.
So If I enable dreamscene again I will be able to use the extra options?
Is there a hack to get dreamscene to work on my graphics card lol, it worked in the beta a while back flawlessly.

Cheers

Hi lersince1991,

If you re-enable DreamScene you should be able to use the extra options again. However, note the following (taken from 'Windows Vista In Depth'):

"DreamScene full-motion video wallpaper is an enjoyable addition to Vista Ultimate, but it requires a powerful 3D graphics card. Users with integrated laptop graphics or older discrete graphics cards with limited RAM or 3D rendering capabilities are likely to discover that DreamScene reduces system reponsiveness."

I would have suggested that you install a more powerful graphics card on your PC, but since it is a laptop that will not be possible (or extremely difficult if it is). Instead, make sure that you have installed the maximum amount of RAM that your laptop can take and check regularly for updates for your graphics driver as a more recent driver might mean the difference between being able to run DreamScene and not being able to.
