Vista having problems. HELP!!!

Recently I have run some registry programs like RegCure, Registry Mechanic, CCleaner, etc and I'm not sure if it affects my system.

1) Most of my programs in the Start menu are missing. Below are some of the examples:
a) Under "Accessories", I can only see Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard, Command Prompt and Run.
b) Under "Games", I can only see Game Explorer
c) Many programs shortcut like Window Defender, etc are missing.
d) I still do not know what else are missing.

2) Windows take some time to shut down and startup and also running of programs.

3) Previously I was able to watch video online but now it shows "Done, but with errors on page." I click to show details and it says the following:

"Problems with this Web page might prevent if from being displayed properly and functioning properly. In the future, you can display this message by doubling-clicking the warning icon displayed in the status bar."

4) I have 1,491 problems affecting my Windows performance which I do not know how to solve. I had attached a copy of the Event Logs and the Reliability and Performance report.

You really screwed up pngzhengli.

Your best bet is to get your windows DVD and just reinstall everything.

And in the future leave the registry cleners alone. They are dinosaurs in the new OS age. Vista does not need them and as you can see they can, and do more harm then good.

You could try a restore point, but I'm betting that they are MIA as well as your programs.

While I agree that users should avoid Registry cleaners unless they know what is going on, they are certainly not "dinosaurs in the new OS [Vista] age".

Vista can have many of the same Registry issues that XP has. Registry cleaners have their place in the right hands.

You might want to doubt your infallibility just a bit.

I have personally used Registry cleaners on Vista to fix problems that would otherwise would have required a new install. So you can say that the Vista Registry never needs a Registry cleaner, but, in my experience, that is simply untrue.

I think CCleaner is pretty safe. So is TuneUp Utilities 2008. I have used both to fix damaged Vista Registries.

I think nCleaner is dangerous to use on Vista....

Hello pngzhengli.

I believe you can follow these instructions below to do a "Factory Recovery" on your machine.
Be advised that this will bring the machine back to a state when you first got it.
You will lose any data you have on it; but it sounds like you are beyond that being a concern!

Start with the machine off, press the power button, as soon as you do that start tapping the F11 key.
That should take you to the "Recovery Center". When there just follow the prompts.
It is pretty much self explanatory.
If your first option is system restore select no, which should take you to system recovery.
You want to try system recovery not system restore, unless you have good restore points!
If your first attempt to boot into F11 doesn't work, try again.
