Solved Undeletable files........?

I am running Vista Ultimate 32 bit. I have a folder on my desktop named Downloads that I use for, shockingly, downloads. Anyway, there are a couple of files in the folder that are, apparently, not really there. They are like ghost files. They used to exist but now they are still visible but not recognized by any program. Also, they have a size of 0 kb!

I'd like to get rid of them but they refuse to be deleted. When I try to delete them, I get this:

Capture8.jpg

So I figured that I'd delete the whole folder........or not:

Capture7.jpg

Any ideas are or will be greatly appreciated...............

I tried however I have a problem with safe mode. My video card is DVI only and when I try to F8 to safe mode, it doesn't load the drivers for the video card. The problem then is that I can't see anything since my DVI monitor won't work. Suggestions?

Hi Kilrain, and welcome to Vista Forums,

Since you have the 32 bit Vista, you might try using the free program Unlocker to see if it will allow you to delete them.

Hi kilrain_20th

You can also try enabling the admin account, log on as admin, then browse to the desktop of your profile and try to delete it there.

Here is how to enable the administrator account:

Thank you for the information and suggestion. Neat trick but unfortunately it didn't work. Even under the "real" administrator account, it still won't be deleted, at least by this mere mortal.......:(

I will try the next one.............

EUREKA! HUZZAH! SHAZZAM!

By the great beard of Zeus you've done it man! You showed me a way to kill the unkillable, to remove the unremovable, to delete the undeletable!

Funny thing was, even unlocker looked at it and said it wasn't locked but then said, would you like me to delete it anyway? Half heartedly I pressed yes and unlocker magically did what nobody or nothing else could do. Amazing!

Thanks for the help ladies and gentlemen. I've bookmarked these forums and will be a regular browser and, most likely, an irregular poster.

Your welcome Kilrain. I'm happy to hear that it is now deleted for you.
