I purchased my son a new Acer laptop, it came loaded with Vista Home & Student. It functions fine and will download anything from a CD. It will not, however, download anything from a flash drive or from the web. It goes through all of the motions, indicates a successful download, but the "Downloaded" information is not there. I've used the search tool and have done so manually and it is simply not there. For example, Yahoo Messenger appears to download, but simply will not. I am about to off load Vista and go back to XP.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated,

Hello Jack,

Double check to see if the downloaded file is in one of the C:\Users\(User Name) folders. Usually it will be the Downloads or Documents folder. It may not show up in the search results until the Index has finished slowly running in the background and updated itself. To have a more accurate search result, you can disable the index to have Vista default to a non-index search.
