Cannot Move or copy/cut and past files

I can not move, copy and paste OR cut and past files from folder to folder anywhere (desktop -> folder on desktop, my docs -> random folder, etc).

I am the sole user of this machine and my account is in the administrators group. I have tried taking ownership of the files and folders and it still does not work.

I have searched and searched and can not find a working solution to this problem.

I an running Vista Ultimate 32 Bit SP1 and have not installed any new applications that would cause this type of issue.

please let me know if you need any other information to help in solving this issue

Re: Cannot Move or copy/cut and past files

PGU5802,

As a test, open Computer and check to see if C: drive still as the Owner as TrustedInstaller. If not, change the owner back to the default TrustedInstaller. This tutorial will show you how to if needed. This can sometimes cause problems like this if it is not.

Re: Cannot Move or copy/cut and past files

Did you run the Vista installation DVD from within your current Vista and not from boot?

Re: Cannot Move or copy/cut and past files

Have you checked you disk for faults. I had this problem on an old data disk before it got binned. The drive ended up locked.
Luckley it was only a data drive so I could move all the info onto my main drive then bought a new data drive. Have not had the problem since. Look in your error logs to see if there are any disk problems.
Also look for controller errors.

Brink,
Yes, i ran the installation dvd from within windows.
and now i think i know why. i was not able to uninstall SP1 and i do not have a sp1 slipstreamed disc and i can not create one because i can not copy files. do you guys know where i can download one.

Roy,
where are these error logs?

do you guys think it could be a services issue?

Re: Cannot Move or copy/cut and past files

That would explain that then. It looks like you may end up needing to do a clean reinstall.
