recovery discs

Hello,

I wondered if there is more - or + value to doing a restore prior to my sp1 download, I would like to make a recovery disc using brinks great tutorial. I only have my retail purchase computer created one time recovery discs.

Creating a system restore point before installing anything on your PC is a good policy. Following Brink's tutorial on making a recovery disk is even better. I think you're on the right track. Let us know how things turn out.

Creating a recovery is not a bad idea, tho you'd be much better off with a full install disk. Microsoft is giving them away ( just $10 for postage) to those who want to go from 32 to 64 bit. Visit the link,

Compare editions: 64-bit editions of Windows Vista

scroll to bottom of page, enter your country, product key, then pay a few bucks postage and the lovely people at Microsoft will send a 64bit full install disk anywhere in the world.

and follow the tutorial

Alternatively, can you can find a folder named WAU on your machine ( could be inside the recovery partition if you have one ) ?

You can use vLite to make a bootable iso of these and burn the image to a dvd, giving you a full 32bit install disc. Post back if you find the WAU files and want instructions on this, it's easy.

Duh ...

Now that I've re-read your post, it may be advantageous to do so!
First: I would use the "Factory Recovery" partition the discs were created from;
as that would be easier and less likely to be prone to corruption.
Second: I would get SP1 from here, SP1 for 32-bit Vista and save it to disc,
so you have it on hand when you need it. That way you can have it installed
before you go back online.

You should have SP1 installed on your computer to help fix and patch Vista more. However with SP1 installed you will need to use the manual option 2 instead to create the recovery disc.
