New Computer Won't Even Boot Up In Any Mode (BSOD). Help please!

Hi,

I just got a brand new PC.

Core2Duo Quad
ASUS P5Q Pro
4 Gigs Ram
RAID 0
ATI 4870
AzuzenTech Prelude 7.1

I kept getting errors (BSOD) even when I was trying to install Vista Premium 64-bit, but somehow I was able to boot off the Vista disc and install Vista.

Now my PC restarted many times during the installation without any problems. I installed the latest updates for Vista and the latest Video and Sound Drivers.

Well the next day I go to turn on my computer and I cannot boot up Vista normally (a quick blue screen that's too fast to read, and then my PC automatically restarts), not in safe mode (same thing as before), not in "last working configuration (same again), or even of the Vista disc to do a repair! (same blue screen/crash as before)!!!

Man, I really don't know what's going on. One time, this is when I was installing Vista, the Memory Diagnostics Tool started and scanned my memory. It actually came back with this message; "Hardware problems were detected. To identify and repair these problems, you will need to contact the computer manufacturer."

This, coupled with the fact that anyway of starting Vista fails, makes me think it could be bad memory (or atleast some kind of hardware failure.

What do you guys think?

Thanks,
Rob

Hello joeybadoey, welcome to Vista forums!

One way to find out!
As you must have access to a machine to post this question, create a CD
of MemTest86 at the link below and run a full pass on each stick individually.
If it comes up with errors you'll know for sure.

Memtest86.com - Memory Diagnostic

Keep us informed!

Re: New Computer Won't Even Boot Up In Any Mode (BSOD). Help please!

Hey guys, thanks for the replies.

I got this PC from NCIX.com (It's one of there pre-configured models). This is the message I sent to their support. (btw, I have 2x2GB Corsair Modules and they came in slot 1 and slot 3, so in dual-channel mode).

Here's exactly what I've done so far:

1. I increased the voltage to 2.1v, but this did not make any difference and my system still crashed. I tried adjusting the voltage a bit lower then that, and it still didn't make a difference.

2. I tried one 2GB stick of memory and my system didn't boot. I then ran Memtest on that one stick, but there were no errors.

3. I tried the second 2GB stick of memory and my system didn't boot again. I then ran Memtest on that one stick, and there were no errors.

4. I then installed both sticks of memory again, but I swapped the sticks positions from the way that they came. Here's the interesting
thing. The first time I ran Memtest this way, I got no errors and Vista actually booted up...BUT it froze (no blue screen, just froze) only minutes after getting to the desktop.

I then decided to run Memtest one last time, and interestingly enough it detected some errors.

Here are the errors it detected with Memtest-86 v3.4 (it always fails in test 2):
Test 2 - 4 Errors
Error Confidence Value: (*This was blank)
Lowest Error Address: 00000000003 - 0.0MB
Highest Error Address: 000838d5103 - 2104.3MB
Bits In Error Mask: ffffffff
Bits In Error - Total: 32 Min: 6 Max: Avg: 21
Max Contiguous Errors: 1
Ecc Correctable Errors: (*This was blank)
Errors per Memory Slot: 0:2
1:0

For awhile I was thinking there might be problems with the first slot on the motherboard, but even just putting one stick in the second slot, my computer logged in, but soon crashed with a blue screen that quickly showed.

Now I still think it could be the motherboard, or the memory or maybe both.

Here's the really interesting thing: Everytime I pull out the memory and put it back it, my computer will actually boot into Vista and work for awhile, but then it stops!

I can then turn everything off, pull out the memory, put it back in, and Vista boots again......but will crash later.

What the heck does this mean to you guys? I definitely think it's a hardware issue.

Thanks,
Joey.

STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING.
I know it is not nice to shout but I wanted you to see it.
Put the voltages back to what they should be.
Phone the company you got the pc from and ask for a replacement or your money back.
If I bought a car and it broke down on the fore court the sales man would have 2 choices.

1 refund.
2 new car.

I always try and equate computer bought problems to a car. A car is a lot bigger than a computer but when problems arise they can be the same.
Blue screen - wont start.
