No because your system is installed on C:\
You can't remove and restore hard drive space from 2 different hard disks....

Houston, we have a problem.

Your root drive (C) is where it all happens with regard to the operating system. If you only have 9Gb then you may have to think about reconfiguring your whole system, because from my knowledge, Vista is gonna need more than that to run effectively. Worst case scenario, you may have to reformat and rethink your hard-drive set-up...

Actually, since your storage folders, such as Documents, Downloads, etc, are created (by default) on C:, yes, you can use D:\ as a storage folder.

You'll want to start with only one of those folders - Say, Documents - and then follow the tutorial http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/107990-personal-user-shell-folders-move-location.html to move its location from C: to D:.

For example, I have *all* of my shell folder s (Documents, Downloads, Music, etc) moved from C: to D: - and following this method doesn't just move it from here on out - it moves the current folder with all the data in it to the new location - and references will still point to it.

If you plan on moving *all* the special folders, please write back *before* you do - there is one particular thing to note before doing that.
