E6850 Oc problem vista 64 bsod when stress test

:mad:Am having a hard time trying to get my system stable on vista ultimate 64 on xp pro 32 bit it worked great

am getting the bsod when i run orthos prime 95 and occt
VCORE 1.42V
FSB CORE 1.4V
FSB 1616 @3.636Ghz
Memory 2.1V

I added more virtual memory

Initial size (MB) 4393
Maximum size (MB) 6139

and it seems the bsod stopped but orthos and prime 95 will get errors and stop 3 to 4 hours in instead of bsod in 3 min into it

So far gaming on crysis, cod4, assassins creed, guild wars, call of juarez, ut3, star trek armada 2 and command and conquer tibwars and kanes wraith i have not crashed or locked up

only games i lock up on or crash are bf2142 and bfme2

and droped down the fsb from 1616 to 1600 or 400fsb depends on how you look @ it.

but still with overclock and stock i still get errors any ideas why? <!--IBF.ATTACHMENT_214084-->

Hm.. well you should be able to hit 3.6 GHz decently easy.. and with less volts than that. I can hit that with my Quad on those volts. I know all chips are different. but you should be able to hit that..

Have you tried loosening the RAM timings.. have you done anything with ram to Rule the RAM out first? changed Divider or something.

I have messed with the times of the ram and up the volts

i have tried

5-5-5-15-2t timings
5-4-4-15-2t timings

i have up the volts of the ram to 2.2V i don't now what other timing to try and sugestions

but i am thinking its ram related

What timings does the mobo set for the RAM in auto mode?

Running dual dual kits may be your problem - the nVidia chipsets (especially the 6xx and 7xx series) have issues with running 4 DIMMs at one time.

Supposedly the 7xx series is also problematic, however, I remember many more posts about the 6xx than the 7xx. With the 7xx I think including that cheapo fan for the Northbridge helped alleviate *some* of the problems, but there is a 'mobo mod' out there in the eVGA forums about the 780 where you can take a 60mm x 20mm fan and wire tie it to the radiator fins and plug it into the aux fan Power source instead of the NB fan Power source, and it runs a lot faster - seems the mobo limits the juice going through the NB fan power source....

so a 2x2 dual kit would be better then i take it?

Ya thats what people say.. But you can get better timings with the 4x1. but it's easier on the Mobo to have 2x2. Thats what I have.

Also when I said are you messing with the Timings. I didn't mean go lower.
If your having problems getting your OC to be stable. and you are pretty sure you have enough vcore. then try "Loosening" your RAM timings.
I know that ram is rated for 800 MHz at 5-5-5-15. or maybe less cuz it's 800.. prob 5-4-4-12 or something.

But with an OC. I'd try loosening them to like 5-6-6-16 T2 and see if it makes it stable. When you think the ram is the problem. Give the RAM enough Juice. Make sure your runnin what the MFG spec is for the ram at that speed. and then try loosening the RAM. gives it a easier time. for a more stable clock. just what I've been able to do. is loosen them for better results.

Any particular reason why you're switching RAM speed dependent upon whether or not you use SLI? Have you always been switching like this? How often do you find you switch speeds? Are you also adjusting voltage? Are these preset configs you load each time? If so, have you memtested each config for 8 hours?

It's very strange that your can't use the RAM's timings and must use auto. Stranger still is the fact that this same sort of thing has happened to you with two different kits of RAM... which at least leads me to believe your OC wasn't really stable in the first place. That you can run some games but not others doesn't mean the OC is good, it just means it's good enough to run some games.

Any voltage increases to the northbridge?

400MHz fsb seems pretty bland, even for this board. Voltage seems high enough, so you should be able to get this. You're not trying to do all this with a command rate of 1T are you?

At what speed and at which settings were you last able to pass Orthos? How hot do you get running Orthos?

Also: Any particular reason why you're switching RAM speed dependent upon whether or not you use SLI? Have you always been switching like this? How often do you find you switch speeds? Are you also adjusting voltage? Are these preset configs you load each time? If so, have you memtested each config for 8 hours?

**edit** Is there a newer bios you could try?

my mobo has the latest bios updates my memory timing is 5-4-4-15-2t thats what ocz has it rated for. as for switching the ram enabling sli on my mobo allows my ram to run at its fullest.

the last time i ran with no issues prime 95 ran with no problems was when i was running Xp pro ddr2 6400 2 gigs and the same oc and voltages i listed with sli enabled in the bios. it ran for 12 hours with no erros

It's 5-4-4-15 on Intel chipsets; on AMD chipsets it's 5-5-4-15. Minor distinction I know since you've also tried 5-5-5-15, but I just thought I'd mention it.

The part I don't get is why you're switching because of SLI? SLI is independent of your RAM; you enable or disable it through your drivers, which is why I don't understand why you're doing it? Do you have some bios option that you have to check to enable SLI?

Seems to me the first thing you'd want to do is get the board stable, at whatever memory speed, be it 800MHz or 1000MHz. Since you've got 1000MHz RAM, I'd shoot for that and just stick with it... at 5-5-4-15 2T. I would also forget about what settings you used before. Unfortunately, you're going to have to start from scratch all over again.

If it were me, I'd load the optimized defaults, set my RAM accordingly, and begin the OC anew. You may very well find that with this new bios, twice the RAM, this new OS and all these new drivers that you're unable to get the exact OC you once were... that happens. :( But you may also find that you can still get to the same place, but by different settings?
