Recent crashes...no BSOD - Just power off!

Hi,

I thought I had an issue with my previous Vista install, so I just wiped the drive and re-installed from a clean slate.

Now that all the drivers are loaded, I thought I could go in and load some games and give it a try.

I've tried two games, and anytime I start them, as soon as the graphics kick in, the whole computer turns off immediately. It doesn't BCOD or display anything - just power out!

Does anyone have any recommendations of things to try? I've done several exhaustive memory tests and no issues have been found.

I have the following system:

Tyan S2895 MB
Dual Opteron 280's
4GB Ram
Dual NVIDIA 7900 GTX
Vista Ultimate x64 w/ SP1

Thank you!

Possible heat issue with your video card?

You install the newest drivers off Nvidia's page not just off the cd it came with?

Hi kentiler..

could be heat related ......do you monitor your card temps....??
what PSU do you have ..?? it may be deteriorating & crapping out under load
the fact you get no BSOD is a pretty good indication of power failure..

also fill your system specs in the userCP to help us!! :)

From recent experience overheating will cause this unexpected shut down -

I was forced to do a complete rebuild over the weekend - ( although my overheat issues was caused by the fact I didn't know how much thermal paste to put on fan and my cpu was @85c- ouch ) but anyway the fans were dusty which I was also told could escalate the issue.

Maybe you need to give the innards a bit of a clean out - or take out the videocard and check the fan - if they are clogged up that would certainly contribute to your problem. I have also recently learnt that 85c is the shut off point for cpu - exceed that and the system is off to protect itself from damage. Maybe gpu have the same system in place.

Worth a look.
