"new" computer with hidden user acct - how to get rid of it?

I have a problem -- just bought a computer at SAM's Club, an HP with Windows Vista Home Premium, fresh out of the box, but when I got it home and set it all up and loaded on data from an old computer I found out it had what I believe is a hidden user account already on it. There was an email account for "Bill" somebody (I deleted that email acct and set up a new one for my wife - it's her computer), and when I try to link to this computer from mine using Windows Explorer, looking at her computer on the Network, instead of seeing the account I set up for "Julie" I still see the files listed under the user "Bill". I'm worried this guy set up some secret way to access the computer. I think probably not, but I don't know.

And, even if not, I'd like to delete the "Bill" account.

2 questions ... 1) should I return this computer? Am I in danger of someone having left some kind of "backdoor" to get into the computer?

    2) If not, how do I get rid of the hidden "Bill" user account?

    Thanks so much !!

I'd be more pissed someone tried to pawn off a used machine as new more so than anything else. Just on principle I'd return it. Are you sure you didn't get a refurbished machine?

Hi Warren, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Unless you knew you bought a refurbished computer, then I would returrn it as well as Fumz suggested.

Otherwise, you might consider doing a clean reinstall of Vista to be safe. There's no telling what else may be on there that you do not know about yet.

Thanks, guys, for your input. I felt that way, too, but I was hoping to avoid all the time/energy of bringing the computer up, installing software, creating network, shortcuts, installing printer, adding data, and whatever else I had to do to get it ready for use. I wouldn't know how to do a clean install of Vista Home Premium and don't think I have a full copy of it anyway. So I guess I'll have to jump in and re-do the whole shebang !!

I appreciate your thoughts. -- Warren
