Windows Vista Premium 64bit edition

Hello,

I have Windows Vista Premium 64bit edition on my PC from the factory, it has a ton of Acer junk on it.

I'd like to buy a full version of Windows Vista Premium 64bit edition and do a clean install without the extra junk described above

When I go into Best Buy and Future Shop, they have the full version there but no one seems to know whether it has 64bit capability or just 32 bit (or both)

I don't want to buy a copy only to find out its only 32bit, I have 8GB RAM and need 64bit for all of my RAM to be recognized

Anyone know for sure whether the Windows Vista Premium full DVD you see on the shelves has 64 bit?

Or

Should I be buying a copy from Microsoft?

Thanks in advance!

Brian,

Go to:

Windows Vista Alternate Media

Using your current product key code, you might be able get the 64-bit version of Vista Home Premium for the cost of shipping and handling.

If not, the only version of Vista Home Premium you can buy retail, is the 32-bit version. Then you would use the link above to get the 64-bit version. You can buy an OEM version of Vista Home Premium in 64-bit. Check out NewEgg for this. The OEM versions are a pain if you want to use it on a different machine later.

Edit: I tried using the Vista OEM Product Key from my HP laptop and was unable to get the Alternate Media tool to send me a 64-bit DVD. You will have to buy a 32-bit Retail version or a 64-bit OEM version. Again, OEM versions are a pain if you change hardware.

Hello Brian.

I believe that only Ultimate comes with both 32-bit and 64-bit install DVDs.
I understand that you say, you want to only make one purchase but
after you have the 32-bit Home P. you can send for the 64-bit DVD for
9.95 postage and handling at the link below.
