Vista - Rename takes too long

Hi
I have a vista home premium 32bit. Whenever i try to rename a file or folder it takes around 1 min. I don't know why it happens. Can someone suggest regarding this?

That is strange. Have you already tried restarting the computer to see if that would hopefully resolve the issue?

Yes i did. the problem is persistent. It does not go away with shutdown. So whenever i want to rename after changing the name i need to wait for 1 min for the new names to appear.

Sazbad,

It sounds like a refreshing issue. For a workaround you can press F5, or click on View and Refresh, to refresh the active window.

See if applying this tutorial can help by restoring the default folder settings in the registry.

Have you already installed all of your Windows Updates and SP1?

all the updates have been applied. when i rename it is not possible to refresh because the whole explorer hangs. Then after a while when the rename is done, explorer becomes normal.

If this just started to happen recently, within the last 90 days, then you might give a System Restore a try using a restore point dated before the problem started.
