probably going to need some more info...what were you doing when it froze, or is it random.....is it under warranty? probably should have been the first question.. if it is... thats the way to go....its a new machine thats not working...you shouldnt have to diagnose or fix anything on a new machine... got a warranty...use it. get what you paid for.. a working system. That being said.. people will need to know what your doing when it freezes, or just hangs from nowhere...is there a blue screen or errors?

Welcome to the board. One thing I can suggest before more info is provided.
Open up the case with power unplugged. Make sure all cable connections, memory cards, and expansion cards are all set and good. Pay extra attention on the SATA cable connection to the Hard Drive. Let us know if it helps.

Let's start with the basics... new computer just loaded....hmmm maybe it can be simple things like loading updates to catch up, maybe it's device driver downloads to catchup....

Define you persception on "freeze".... do you get the "white screen of death" where the computer is not responding or is it constrained to busy with the drive whirling but to you it's non responsive.

Some times our systems have to catch up to get all the updates, virus definitions etc.....causes us to think we have a locked system ....just a thought.

k, settin cables didnt work :(, I was listening to music while playin Chess (froze b4 on me so thought I would try again) when it froze. I just made sure all the cables were in good, to tell truth didnt really know what I was doing, my bro is commin home tommorrow though.

I'm pretty sure I got all my drivers updated and everything. When it freezes I cant do anything, its unresponsive, the keyboard lights go out, music stops, cant press keys or move mouse

How about looking at the "Event" log and tell us the types of errors you see. It appears that your computer hardware specs are more than adequate but would be interested in knowing what's in the logs.....

Had a similar problem until I completely reformated and rebuilt my system....now I have RI = 10.0 and things work just fine....

Wondering through our view of the event log that something might be evident...next time it freezes take note of the time it happens.

When it freezes to you shut down hard or do you ride it out to see if system comes back ?

Have you gone in and cleaned up the /users/<account name>/app data/local/temp directory to get rid of all the temp files ?

Do you have anti virus on your system ? What is it ?

Made any recent changes to system recently like is this just happening or been a problem for a while ?

...can ask all sorts of questions...but maybe if you peek at the event log it might lend a clue.

When it freezes, I wait maybe 30 sec, then press restart on the comp, just cleaned up the temp directory, and I downloaded AVG anitvirus free off the internet almost first thing. I just got this comp new, and it's been happenin since I got it, I'll go play chess and play some music to get it frozen, and then see what the log says

Was gonna go play chess, and was exiting internet explorer when I got a blue screen (1st time it happened). There was all writing and stuff on it, was tryin to read, said like error, windows needs to shut down to prevent dmg,and shut off in like 5 sec so I didnt get a good look, happened at 9:17, gonna go check the event log

If it was me I'd take it back he's only had it a week, it should not be like this.

Take it back and say you either want a replacement that works or your money back. ;)

That used to happen to me and it was caused by a faulty stick of $230 RAM. Blue screens for no apparent reason and i hate to tell you it gets worse. For me it got to the point where my computer wouldn't stay on for 5mins before BSOD. It got so bad that it wouldn't get past the second boot screen thing. Took the RAM out and it works perfectly. Haven't had a crash in 2 weeks.

You might just be the unlucky owner of a bad stick(s) of RAM.

Try moving the RAM around and then if that doesn't work put one in and see if it crashes and if it does then try the other stick.

Could also be PSU, CPU, GPU, Mobo or HDD. It could be anything but try the RAM.

I wanna edit what I said earlier about when it freezes. It seems that my comp freezes when I am running applications. I can browse on the internet fine, but when I use applications, like chess titans, I can only move 1 or 2 pieces before it freezes.
It also freezes when I watch an episode of House, or Bleach. On BS player it runs all choppy and stuff, on vlc and windows media it runs good, but it freezes all the time
