Destination Folder Access Denied

I'm trying to delete some files from Steam. However, I'm frustratingly greeted with this damn message "Destination folder access denied. You need permission to perform this action."

Permission from who? I'm the only account/admin on my computer. This is not the only time I have received some kind of error message reporting to me I need permission/higher access--it's also happened when I tried to "Immune" my computer from known viruses using Spybot - Search & Destroy.

Can anyone help me please? Thanks!

Question: from which folder are you trying to delete files? Anything in "C:\Program Files", "C:\Program Files (x86)" or "C:\Windows" is generally more protected than they where in older versions of Windows.

If the files you are trying to delete in a different folder, then perhaps you are having trouble because they are still open by Steam? In many case, when a program open a file, it "locks" it for exclusive use until it is closed. Try shutting down Steam and then try and delete again.

Wow! What an easy fix! Thanks for taking time to respond with the overly simple solution.. I feel like a douche haha. All I had to do was close Steam.

And as for your question, I deleted the files from "C:\Program Files (x86)".

Also, I was able to get around needing "Elevated permission" (or something to that effect) to fully utilize Spybot - Search & Destroy by disabling UAC.

Thanks again for your help, Dzomlija!

Glad I could help, Chris. But as for disabling UAC to get full functionality in Spybot, perhaps you should consider checking for a newer version that work properly with UAC. You be better off running with UAC enabled, as it will do nothing but bolster the effectiveness of Spybot.

Just a thought...

Unfortunately, I have the most up-to-date version of SS&D but apparently it remains incompatible with UAC. But the quality/service of the program for the price (FREE!) far outweighs the small discrepancy it has with UAC.

I've found disabling UAC is only necessary when updating the immunize function of SS&D. After updating the immunize function, UAC can be turned back on and everything runs smoothly.

This is not to say that I'm completely attached to SS&D, I just really appreciate the quality of the program for its wonderful cost. If you, or anyone, know of perhaps a better program that is also free (or not), I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks!

Instead of going through the trouble of disabling UAC, updating Spybot, and re-enabling UAC, try running Spybot with elevated credentials.
