Long Vista Load Times normal operation in vista

Hopefully someone can help me on this and won't have bad news. Ok so i have a 500gb Seagate SATA hard drive. For some reason when vista is loading it takes forever. it used to load after around 3 seconds. This has happened before and i cleaned the Nforce drivers and re-installed and the issue went away and havent had a problem till the other day the system hung up while playing crysis and upon re-boot the hard drive started the long load times. But when in vista or doing anything after the system is loaded is fine and i have no issues. I have tried uninstalling drivers using driver sweeper ect and then re-installing drivers with no luck. Has anyone had this issue before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Long Vista Load Times normal operation in vista

Well I have to say my Vista load time is also slower than I would like.

Just posting to keep updated!

Hope someone has an answer!

Vista is still fast once it finishes loading the taskbar, the icons on the right etc, but until then slow slow slow. Takes about 1min 20 seconds to do a computer start up...

smitty_smit how long do you think it takes you?

Re: Long Vista Load Times normal operation in vista

Adamd it is about the same time for me. and like i said it was just a few seconds. i am not sure what is causing it. I have noticed that no matter how many times i try and sweep and update my Nforce drivers. when i open Ntune to check for driver updates that one always says its needed. not sure if its an issue with Ntune or the drivers not loading properly

Re: Long Vista Load Times normal operation in vista

Check your startup in msconfig for unwanted programs that start. Try defraging your harddrive.

Re: Long Vista Load Times normal operation in vista

Time for a computer clean up Buddy.

CCleaner
MSCONFIG.

Run -> MSCONFIG -> Services and Startup.

Disable everything in Services Except:

Your AntiVirus, Windows Audio, Windows Audio Endpoint, Group Policy Client, Multimedia Class Schedular, All the Network and Netlogon things, Wired/Wireless Auto Config, Themes, windows colour, and such.

Google things you dont know.

Auslogics Disk Defrag

Auslogics is not a normal disk defrag, it is a type of defragger that is fast, efficient, quite better than Windows Defrag.

Get back to me on the details after you've done these ^^

Re: Long Vista Load Times normal operation in vista

It's best to be very careful about disabling services. This BlackViper page is usually recommended for guidance about which Vista services can be safely disabled.
http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/servicecfg.htm

By the way, he advises:
'Do not use "msconfig" to disable services, type "services.msc" in the Run box instead!'

Re: Long Vista Load Times normal operation in vista

Ok I have tried most of the suggested ideas. Defragged my hard drive, registry and used some of the steps that you posted OldBloke. However when I turn on my PC is still sits on the scrolling green bar screen for around a minute or two before moving to the vista logon screen. after I get there the computer is fine as if nothing is wrong. while the system is booting at the scrolling green bar area the hard drives sounds like it’s on and off. I can hear it work then a pause hear it work then a pause it does this till vista fully loads. any other suggestions preferably ones that don’t require a new hard drive.

Re: Long Vista Load Times normal operation in vista

Well I ran those programs and it did help and took about 15 seconds off my time, however I just wish once you could see the desktop it would be ready to use...

Maybe that's not possible, but sure would be nice!

EDIT: well I have my boot time from pushing the power button to having Firefox open to 1:05 down from 1:30.

Did some extra tweaking and used those programs. Its a lot faster, however still can never be fast enough lol

I would be happy with a 45 second total boot time!
