vista wont run restore disk

trying to make a long story short.. i have a gateway 64 bit laptop. windows went belly up and our office tech put a restore disc on it, however, he inadervtantly put a 32 bit system on which caused the nice video card not to load. the card would see the 64 bit drivers because theres a 32 bit system on it and the system wouldnt see any 64 bit drivers. sooo, i get gateway tech support who said they will send me a restore dvd and to put it in and totally restore everything.
I put it in and it says its reading windows with the bar going accross the bottom, then a big gateway splashscreen comes up with a small box that says "dialogue" at the top and there it sits..for hours. even overnight. I have no usb things plugged in, i ran a hard drive scan and it came back with no errors. i push f8 when i boot and it gives me no option to repair, that option is gone. im totally frustrated and at a loss. Any help would be so greatly appreciated. i dont want to have to send this back to them to delete my bank account and fix it.
