Hello gsm,

Do you mean you have an oem machine which has a C partition for Vista and all your programs and data, and a D partition - a recovery partition?

If that is the case, it is best not to do anything at all to the recovery partition.

If you are using the Vista backup program, it will not back up to the C partition. It has to back up somewhere else.

If the only somewhere else you have is the D recovery partition, it will send the backups there.

You will need to give it a "somewhere else". This could be a separate partition you have created ( from your C partition ), or a better solution is to get a separate hard drive .

Instructions on how use the backup program are here

Hope this helps

i really dont understand this vista. when i switch on my computer i have 2 options, 1) vista home 2) vista (recovered). whe i click on the first one is there isnt much there coz i deleted alot of stuff (an reinstalled vista) but my d drive is almost full. when i click on the second option its all my old stuff and d drive is still full. basically i want to get rid f the error message saying "d drive is full", nothing seems to work, also can you tell me why there are 2 options at the begining. thanks

Hello gsm,

Can you tell us if you originally had 2 partitions, the second , D, called a "recovery partition " ?

When you say you "reinstalled", do you mean you used the recovery program to recover your machine to it's factory settings?

Please tell us the make and model of the machine you are using.

Please also post a .jpeg screenshot of Disk Management.

To get to Disk Management, click the start orb, right click Computer, click Manage, click continue. Then in the new window that opens, click Disk Management ( it's on the left - it takes a few seconds to appear ).

If you don't have a program to take screenshots, get this free one

FastStone Capture 5.3 winAddons.com

This tutorial shows how to post a jpeg screenshot - follow step 7 onwards - to get to the place you see in step 7, click the Go Advanced button at the bottom of this thread page.

I am guessing here that you tried to repair your Windows with a repair option or something similar. Cause there's no way you could have two choices as you have said, unless they were there from the beginning.

Also, you seem to recognize which choice leads you to what!

Please tell us whether or not you were getting the two OS choices since you purchased your computer. If not, then could you please try to remember and tell us since when did you start getting two choices for Vista and possibly what caused them to be there in the first place!

Pleased to help!
