Can't open Resource monitor

Dragor

Power User
After my recent nvidia Forceware 178.13 messup:
http://www.vistax64.com/drivers/184690-new-nvidia-drivers-178-13-messed-up-my-system.html

I could not log into my Vista, so I used xp to run a chkdsk scan on my Vista's C:\ drive.
The command was: chkdsk /f <Vista's c:\ drive>

Chkdsk found some errors and fixed them, after which everything was fine. All my driver troubles mentioned in the above post have also gone and am a Happy Vista user now albeit for this little problem:

perfmonproblemlw6.png

I realised this when I could no longer open Resource monitor from the task manager.
So, I went to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Reliability and Performance Monitor and got this window. I thought that maybe the shortcut could be messed up, so I clicked Start > typed in search: perfmon.msc and clicked it to open and find the same error.

I thought I could open "Turn Windows features On/Off" and chose to re install Administrative tools as in XP, but couldn't find any such option.

Next, I tried System File Checker and it reported to have found some errors which could not be fixed and that the details were in CBS.log which was huge and cryptic to say the least!

I googled a bit and found this: You experience installation errors and compatibility problems when you install Windows Server 2003 management tools on a Windows Vista-based computer
but the procedure is only for Windows Server 2003 Administration Tools Pack and not Windows Vista's admin tools.

As always, I am fresh out of leads to follow this and its making my head spin
Any help is gladly apreciated.

P.S.: I would also want suggestions from you regarding the sfc message that some errors were found that could not be fixed. I am a bit hesitant to resort to repair install as I have seen atleast one such attemp fail here:
http://www.vistax64.com/general-dis...ost-user-settings-installed-programs-etc.html

So, please consider this a dual question thread!

Thank you for your time!

Sorry, but I completely ignored the fact that SFC logs everything to CBS.log!

I have had a thorough look at SFC tutorial here: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66978-system-files-sfc-command.html

The problem is, at the 3rd step in the SFC tutorial where a link to an MS article :Some Windows Vista functions may not work, or Windows Vista may stop responding
tells me how to repair the files, it says
"Type the following command to replace the file with a known good copy of the file"

Now, I don't know where can I find "a known good copy of the file".

Furthermore, I don't know the current status of the files which are shown to be damaged above; I mean are the actual copies damaged or are the backups also damaged?

What stumps me above all else is why Vista, unlike XP, can't replace corrupt system files from the installation DVD? Why do Vista users have to go through such hellish procedures?

Thank you for your time and sorry for a looooong post!
Any and all replies appreciated!

UPDATE:

I fixed the msimsg.dll error by installing the latest version of MSI Installer for Windows.

But, I still need to have the SP1 version of pla.dll as I can't see it in the Vista DVD and neither is it there in the SP1 update package.

Pls, If anyone could help me in obtaining pla.dll, I would highly appreciate it!

Hey Dragor!

Sorry man, but I think that if you don't know what to do, I'm certainly won't either... Maybe try a system restore?:s Otherwise, try posting a new thread maybe, so people notice it again, because I'm sorry, but don't know what to do other than reinstall Vista and format hard drive...

Cheers and good luck,

Amplid
