New context menu

Vista newbie here. I'm running Ultimate 32 on my laptop and Ultimate 64 on my desktop and both exhibit the same thing.

Right clicking on the root of the C drive and selecting New only shows 'Folder'. If you drill deeper into the tree you eventually see all the default new context menu items.

Can you ONLY create a new folder using the context menu on the root? Say if I wanted to quickly make a text document on the root of the C drive on XP I could just right click and select new text document. On Vista the only choice is folder.

Thanks

Re: New context menu

Hi daystrom and welcome to the forums

This restriction only applies to the root of the system drive/partition (where Vista resides). On other drives/partitions, the full options are available.

Re: New context menu

Thanks for the quick reply. That was my feeling - glad to have it confirmed.

Edit: Seems like it applies to my second physical hard drive (D) on my desktop but not the second partition on my laptop.
