Dvd drive problem please help

Hi recently installed roxio 9 on my pc it came with the dell desktop. Right it was alright when i tried to burn data onto dvds 1st time around it completed as normal but when i tried it out it to see if its in the dvd nothing came up which was weird tried it again this time with a different dvd... noticed that the bar has gone to 100% but the dvd wont eject the cd out so decided f it restarted my computer via the powerswitch i knwo your not meant to do this but it wont restart. Then boom my dvd drive cant read anything it still works and the operating system has not found any trouble with it and says its working fine anyone please help! Dont know what to do if my pc fails again and have to reinstall the OS and cant because of the drive wont work. and extra information all of a sudden i have a floppy drive lol even though my pc does not physically have one please help would really appreciate it. IS it broken ? or have i just messed something up?

when my old comps dvd drive died, first it randomly wouldnt read or write. On my HP laptop, when i use dvd+r and try to write normally, even though the whole process seems to go successful, the end result is an empty disc. If i write to it as UDF format it works correctly. And I know this dvd drive is all good.
