Reading Smart Cards

Hi
I wasn't sure where to post this so I hope it's OK here.
I recently had to restore my PC back to factory settings and since then I have noticed that my PC will no longer read or write to my smart cards. For instance, when I insert my card from my camera, I used to cut and paste from the card to my HD, but now I can only copy. If I try to format the card the PC tells me it is write protected but It isn't. I really need to fix this, I hope it's an easy one!
