cannot delete a file

i hope this is the right thread to post this
i have read other threads that say the same problem but no one has a good answer
my problem is this
i have a file on my desktop that when i try so click on it a prompt pops up and says file unrecognized and it gives me a list of programs to open it with
it is a white icon file
when i try to delete it another prompt tells me it cannot be deleted
because file cannot be found
i have tried to delete it under safe mode and right-clicked it and delete
even tried to drag and drop into recycle bin
i have tried all the simple ways to get rid of it but no avail
if anyone can help it would be much appreciated
like i said i have tried all options listed in other posts

The only thing I can come up with is
right click it choose properties and
go to hidden and click the box.
This will hide it not delete it. But you will
not have to look at it any more.
I do not know what kind of file it is.
If you want to find out click on it and
when it asks to choose the program or
find it on the internet choose internet.
Atleast you will know what it is then.

Hi Omniarkk,

Try downloading a program called "Eraser". It is open source and free to use. It should probably get rid or your pesky little icon/file.
