Sudden Problem

Hi,
I have just been presented with a problem and why it happened im not sure.
I had just installed Warhammer Online and everything was going well. The following day after i had finished gaming i logged off. From there i was about to click the little red shut down button but it was unclickable. After some time i just released the battery from the back. To see if everything was ok i tried turning it on again and it said Windows Error Recovery. It gave me 2 options, Startup Repair Which was recommended and normal startup. I clicked startup repair but when i did the screen went black and brought me straight back to Windows Error Recovery. No matter how many times i click repair it doesnt work. If i click normal start it just Brings me to the screen where it says Microsoft and there a little green bar flashing over and back as if loading. After some time it goes black and i have to remove battery to turn it off.

I really need help on this as i have tried to find an answer but can't. I really hope someone on here can help me.
Thanks, S.

Re: Sudden Problem

you have partly or maybe even entirely destroyed your boot files and other files, which means you have most likely lost vista components.. so really you can only reinstall vista.. if you have a disc you can use that, or if not, you will have to get a new copy..

the reason behind this is. when windows is shuting down, it needs to save files and settings for the next boot-up. but when the battery is removed from a laptop or there is a power failure, it has no chance to save it, and approximatly 2 out of 10 times removing the battery/power outage, something will go wrong with your computer, just like in your case, it seems you have lost components of vista...

you could try contacting microsoft support, and give them you KEY (vista serial number on the side of you machine) and see if they can send you a replacement install disc (chances are, there will be a charge + p&p)... but if not, you will have to purchase a new installation disc..

Are you able to start in a Safe mode?
If you can use system restore to a day or two prior of you installing warhammer online.

Re: Sudden Problem

I really hope that what scouse said isnt true. Im trying the safe mode option.
I managed to enter the screen giving me the option to enter Safe Mode. I selected it and it started showing me all the stuff it was loading and then stopped and said please wait. after about 3-5 mins it came to the screen which said Microsoft corp and has the green flashy bar. Then a black screen came. Anything else i can try to try again? I got a bunch of discs when i got my laptop but they are at home and i wont be able to get them for a while but will one of them be a vista reinstall disc? Also when i reinstall vista will it wipe all my installed programs, photos and stuff like that?

Re: Sudden Problem

If you got into safe mode then your computer will not need a reinstall.
Try repair option.
Try to do a restore to before you installed the game in safe mode.

Re: Sudden Problem

Hi Bronzos,

If you are not able to get into Safe mode and/or do a successful system restore, you might try this

Create a Recovery Disc

Hope this helps

Re: Sudden Problem

Hi Bronzos,

Yes you would need to get a friend to download it for you.

It seems you are on the road and can't do that, you haven't got your recovery disks with you, and can't even get into Safe mode ?

Did it give you any options when you tried Safe mode , or just a blank screen ? Usually you get other options, like Last Known good configuration, as well as Start windows normally ( which it will try after a while if you haven't selected one of the other options).
