windows search indexer problem

Help! I keep getting the error message "microsoft windows search indexer stopped working and was closed"- then there is not solution available.

The following tutorial contains a link to Windows Search 4.0 - http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/158288-advanced-searches.html?ltr=A

Try downloading and installing WS 4.0, and see if that helps. How long ago did this problem begin happening, and have you recently installed a new program that may be causing the failure (such as Search extensions, bad Video codecs, any 3rd-party search tolls, etc)

Hi, thanks for the quick response. I don't remember doing anything- except for having to pull the battery out a number of times to shut down my computer- kept crashing and now this. I will try what you suggested. thx, Philippa

Let me know how it turns out for you.

And one more thing. Never just yank the battery out - too many things can go pear shaped doing this that it's not an ideal solution. By "crashing", I'm assuming the computer locks up and becomes unresponsive? If this happens, try pressing (and holding) the power button until it shuts down. Windows itself might have a hernia when powered back up, but at least you don't risk blowing the hardware or the battery!

Who made your laptop? Try going to their website and downloading updated drivers, which may (or may not) solve your freezing problem. If you can give the excact manufacturer, model and series of your computer, I can maybe help you in the right direction.

Do you have Service Pack 1 installed? Itself includes many fixes and enhancments that should improve stability.

I find 3 entries in Toshiba's website for the u300. Which do you have the ST3091, ST3092 or S3094?

I'm checking the S3091 now for you.

I've found the following drivers for you. Just go to the apprpriate link for your U300 model.

Download all the newest drivers that are relevant to you. Install one at a time, evaluating system performance for a while after each. If everything appear fine, install the next one.

I can't help much beyond this. Good luck, and let me know how things go.
