Again, what theme are you trying to install? I'd like to download it and have a look at the files. As I said earlier, some themes have their own Shell32.dll and browseui.dll which ARE NOT patched by Vista Glazz and may be incompatible.
Now, lets try to narrow down the culprit:
Did you double check that you are still have SP1 and HAVE NOT reverted back when you used the recovery disc. The SP1 patched files will not work with non-Sp1 and vice versa.
Now,
Do what you did to restore your desktop to a working state.
Instead of using Vista Glazz, I would highly recommend manually copying the pre-patched files into your C:\Windows\system32 folder. (That's all Vista Glazz really does anyway)
x32 SP1 pre-patched files:
6.0.6001.18000_XX.rar
Copy the pre-patched files into your systems32 folder, reboot and then try to access the themes panel
BEFORE you install any themes. If the theme panel hangs, it's most likely a problem with one or more of the patched files. Which means you using the
wrong files. (Remember, you must take ownership to be able to rename the ORIGINAL files.)
If you've successfully patched the files and
CAN access the theme panel, without it hanging, It's most likely a problem with the theme itself or it's location.
If it's the theme itself, try another one.
It may seem frustrating and difficult at first, but once it's done, it will be worth it
Let me know how you get on either way.
