New Hard Drive problems

I have recently bought this hard drive:

Maxtor 500GB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm *32MB Cache* - OEM - Ebuyer

When using Everest or any other program it doesn't show any details of the drive such as speed, temperature, etc...

These are my results with HDtune which again doesn't read the temerature of the drive and it seems very slow copying files.

Most programs can't properly test a huge cache on a drive or a controller. I have used cached SCSI and SAS RAID controllers for years. Benchmarks were useless. Sandra Pro does take into account the cache. You could also have a SATA bus that is sharing with other devices and not running at full. Also, check the drive in the device manager to see if write caching is enabled.

I have both write caching and advanced performance enabled since I installed it. It took just over 5 mins to copy a 7gb file is this about the right speed? Also, why cant any programs seem to read the temperature?

Hi ToonArmy

It does seem to be a bit slow, not sure why!

On some boards you have sata 1 + 2 connectors is it connected properly?..

must ask! About temps is it smart enabled??
