vista x64 file association problem

Hi 64ers,

I have a prob in the past week with file associations. For me it happened since I upgraded my ACDsee program to v11 (as far as it seems, that or a windows update in the past few weeks)

acdsee support is a load of cobblers to start with. but i googled and found this (but its only a part solution & for 32-bit)...
seems to be the same issue. :
Weird Vista Registry Issue - BrianPeek.com

I get illustrator saying "the illustrator window registry has some problems...".

On RMB icons in yzdock (seems to happen only once per session), i get acrobat trying to run its installer, but then goes into a cycle of trying to analyze the computer non stop.

any help most welcome guys....I'm pulling out chin hair with this one LOL

i still haven't found a solution to the file association, i think its more of a windows update problem rather than a specific program as now, no NEW programs are being associated to their respective files. (i always check this at install)

stumped on this one, so if anyone has any ideas i would gladly take them. re-installing vista is gonna be a last step as I have so many custom prefs and settings on programs for work and i don't want to spend THAT amount of time just for file associations. also, I tried to do the "upgrade" trick, but i haven't got enough space on my system only C drive. (I only have 1.5 gb free on a 40 gb partition)

so ideas welcome! thanks
