Can you get into Windows? If you can, right click Computer and select properties. In the left pane select system protection and then click the advanced tab. Under Startup and Recovery click the settings tab. Uncheck Automatically restart, restart and then write down the error.

I take it this is a brand new build? Have you run memtest to see if your RAM is borked?

Hi nrg, welcome to the board.
Have you try to install Vista with only 2 GB or rams?
If still not helping. Try bench-test the unit with minimum components.
Then post back and we start from there.
Good Luck.

What's telling you the RAM isn't defective other than it's, "new"? It happens, often. The first thing you should do after building a new rig is run memtest for a few hours to make sure the RAM is good... typically ~ 8 hrs to max all the address ranges.

Normally, or at least 6 months ago I'd tend to agree with you, and you very well may be right, try it out and see if it works? It's just that there are usually two culprits which cause your error: a non-patched Vista and an early bios. Since the board is new I'm ruling out the bios, and since this is a new build I'm assuming your Vista came slipstreamed with SP1?

If you don't have SP1, before I'd re-install the whole thing over again, I'd test your theory out by just removing a stick and installing SP1. However, if that fails, if it were me, just to be safe I'd check the hardware.

It is known to install more then 2 G of rams before updates and sp1 will yield bad result. MS' problem.

It really depends on the board and the bios. I installed Vista and SP1 with all 4GB's in without issue. If it were a Vista thing then it would be across the board... all guys with 4GB's would have problems.
