Vista - vista search - index doesn't update

I am getting increasingly frustrated by Vista Search. On a regular basis I need to find *.tps files which are postscript files generated on the fly by Acrobat Distiller. Vista cannot find these files and neither can it find the accompanying *.log files. I have mad entries for these new file types in the control panel for search but sometimes Vista just plainly forgets all about it and ignores the files. I have spent a LOT of time trying to fix this problem and have even spent some money having Microsoft doing support on it but it just doesn't help. I run both MacOSX and Vista64 ultimate simultanely, and I have to confess that it is a nuiscance to watch how OSX not only searches in less than a second - it also presents the search results in a nice way. That's how Microsoft should have made Vista Search and it is a shame that I have to do the major part of my work on Vista.
Apart from my gripes with this - does any have an alternative search utility which works a bit more predictably? Or can Vista Search be made to work like it should ?

Hi Joom,

Depending on the PowerOptions you set for the Indexing service, It can either update instantly (High Performance) or update while your not using the computer (Power-Saving), Make sure its set to High-Performance if you want it to update more regularly but Indexing is not updated instantly for the entire OS and it never will on any OS including OSX.....You can the search box in the folder where the .tps files are located to find files instantly before the entire index is updated however

Make sure the folder path and Filetype is allowed to be indexed by changing the Indexing settings in ControlPanel and I believe its not set to index .tps because .tps is an uncommon file format...

Im not sure why your having trouble with the search feature, Its not had to use to make find the things you need I have 12,000+ songs, 400+ movies and over 8000+ documents, textfiles and pdf, 900+ sourcecode files, 3000+ pictures and more I can find in seconds so I guess its just not indexing the filetype you need (ext:.tps) or your using the wrong syntax but the links above should help
