Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 Memory Question

I recently upgraded my laptop to Vista Ultimate x64 SP1.

I have 4GB of memory and the System screen reports that (it did not prior to SP1).

However, when I look a the physical memory report in Task Manager it still only says 3072 which is 3GB.

What is the deal with that?

I upgraded to the 64bit OS so I could use all of my memory but if it isn't going to use it, then I am going to Ghost back to my 32bit OS.

in your bios there should be a 'memory remap' feature that you need to enable on some motherboards

check your bios thoroughly for it.

Hello RBonser, welcome to Vista forums!

If you have integrated graphics and not a separate graphics card; it has first access to the RAM.

Keep us informed!

I do have an integrated video board (ATI).

If the case is then that it still will only use 3GB then is there any reason I should stay with 64bit?

Hello again.

You might as well; the 32-bit won't have access to it either......;)

To be clear, are you saying that I should or should not just run 32bit Vista?

Hello again.

To me it makes more sense to stay with 64-bit; unless you have apps/progs that can't run in the 64-bit environment....;)

I actually already ghosted back to my 32bit install.

I found that things did not work well for be in 64bit.

IE7 crashed a lot more. Firefox had problems with Flash. Most of all, I did not notice any real performance increase to justify having to deal with making sure I found 64bit versions of software.

I may install it on another hard drive to play with but I think I am sticking with 32bit until 64bit becomes a lot more mainstreme (probably with Windows 7)

Thanks for your help though.
