Any way to make desktop icons default on the right side of the screen?

I have my desktop set up so that the sidebar is on the left side of the screen, simply because I like it better that way, but now whenever I install a new program or download a file from online, which downloads to my desktop, it always appears under the sidebar. Is there any way to make new icons default to the right side of the desktop instead of the left?

The English translation of that site Flavius posted: (For those of us who don't sprachen Deutsche )

DIManagerX is a helpful tool for saving the current position of your desktop icons in profiles for different resolutions. After changing your resolution or reinstall you can load your favorite profile to set your icons into the old position. Features:
  • Individual icon profiles for different screen resolutions/users
  • Live view of the icons on the mini-desktop
  • Optional automatic icon restoration on resolution change
  • Option to check icon positions at regular intervals
  • Automatic update function
  • Compatible with Microsofts Vista 32BIT | XP 32BIT | Windows 2000 | NT4
  • several other functions
  • "DIManager X" is currently available in German and English

Re: Any way to make desktop icons default on the right side of the screen?

All that seems to do is save icon positions and let me restore them. Is there anything that would make new icons appear on the right of the screen?

Re: Any way to make desktop icons default on the right side of the screen?

As far as I know, what you want to do may not be possible. There are plenty of apps that will save the icon position, but none (that I've seen) will allow a default placement to the right. I don't even know of any reg hacks either. I remember looking into this back in the W98 and XP days, but never managed to find a way to do it.

I'm happy enough to be proved wrong though

The only thing I could think of would be to run something like RK Launcher, and have it set to the right side of the screen.
