Excessive amount of temp files

hi, I am running Vista Ultimate 32

a couple of weeks ago I had a problem with Disk Cleanup hanging because I had 116 Gig of Temp files.

Today I tried again and Disk Clean up hung again, this time I have 125 Gig temp files.

How can I have 125 gig temp files in two weeks, I do not do a lot of stuff on the Internet, basically I just muck around with Rail and flight Sim programs.

Any ideas on what the problem could be?

cheers

Daniel

Re: Excessive amount of temp files

Hello Daniel,

Double check to make sure that this is not what you are seeing in the tutorial below. If it is, then do the tutorial to fix this problem before using Disk Cleanup.

Disk Cleanup Windows Error Reporting Bug Fix

Hope this helps for now,
Shawn

You can also try this to clean your temp files.

Re: Excessive amount of temp files

Hi

I really do not know how to explain this any differently, Disk Cleanup does not get far enough to see if I have the problem shown on the link, it hangs and does not proceed, so it does not finish and does not show a selection box.

I found the 125 Gig of temp files by going to %temp% and deleting everything there, the issue is that two weeks ago I had 116 Gig, then today after two days there is 752 meg, why so much after only two days.

I know how to clean it up, I just do not know how to stop the temp files from growing, Disk Cleanup works if the Temp files are not allowed to get to be so many so much and in that case the problem shown in the link does not happen

thanks and regards

Daniel

Re: Excessive amount of temp files

Sorry Daniel, I see now.

I suppose it depends on what you do on your computer on how big the temp file gets. It can build up easily that fast if you do any video or audio editing for example.

To be safe, you should tun a very thorough antivirus and spyware scan to see if anything is found.

Since the temps are build up that fast, you might also use CCLeaner, as Mansrm81 posted, at the end of each day to cleanup.

Re: Excessive amount of temp files

Thanks Brink

I will run CCleaner daily, I have Kaspersky and run a daily scan, and I have Defender, run weekly.

I do not do any work with large files but if you are not concerned I will just manage the problem and leave it at that.

I tried to give you some well deserved Cred but the system would not let me, it says I have to spread it around.
Hardly seems fair if you are the only one who helps me :-(

regards

Re: Excessive amount of temp files

LOL, thank you anyway Daniel. It's set to where you can only give rep points to one member only every so often to help prevent abuse of it.

If the problem gets worse, then post back to see what we can do to help.
