Annoying Vista Issue

Hi,

I have just bulit myself a new Pc and have discovered quite possibly the most frustrating issue i have ever come across trying to fix. This problem is very inconsistant and happens randomly, My pc will hang about every 5 seconds for about a second, when i say hang i mean both video and sound lockup then return to normal. when trying to navigate around on the net via google for answers this makes things difficult. I have done some deeper digging and found a svchost.exe chewing up about 100 mb of RAM but am not sure if this is the source of my problem. One other thing i use is a DLink Wireless Lan adapter via USB and am wondering if this could be giving me grief. I am totally puzzled  and dont know where to look next!!! Any help would be very appreciated.

Here are my pc specs:
XFX Nforce 780i
XFX Geforce 9800 GTX Black Edition
2 X 500 GB Sata WD Caviar HDDs
2 X ASUS 20x DVD-Burners
Antec 900 Case
Intel E8400 3.0 GB CPU
4 GB Corsair Dominator DDR2 (800 Mhz)

What happenes if you run an Etherenet cable for your PC:

1. Straight into your DLink?

2. Straight into your Cable/ADSL modem?

If you dont get pauses with one or both of those connections, that should give you ag ood clue about where the problem might e!b

Have you updated ALL of your drivers to the latest versions from the manufacturer's website?
Also, have you had windows update itself? is SP1 installed?

as for svchost, don't worry about it....at some times I have about 13 instances of it running, some up to 200 mb in size... it's fine, I doubt it is causing your issue.

You might actually be on to something with the wireless lan adapter though. Try following softwaretools' tip, and try connecting your internet through an ethernet cable to see if that eliminates your problem. If it does eliminate your problem, you will have to look for a solution for that (get an internal wifi solution?).

huh? I'm thinking you replied in the wrong thread. But hey, good on the cable. I'm assuming this is about the USB wifi thing?
