I am encountering a "DMA-driver error, CRC error" when attemping to burn CDs/DVDs that I have not encountered before.



I am using a LG 22x DVD-RW Burner

Manufacturer : HL-DT-ST
Model : DVD-RAM GH22LP20
Revision : 1.01

It has no jumpers on the back of the drive and is connected as Master on the only IDE port I have on my motherboard. (It's a Non-SATA drive)

Media wise I am using brand name Memorex discs that I haven't had an issue with before. Errors occur at 16x or even 4x (16x rated discs)

I am not sure if this issue occured after SP1 or on a fresh install. However I did upgrade the burner as I first suspected a drive malfunction. This one is brand new and gives an identical error. It seems it won't write the "Lead-In" information but will burn some useless data to the disc before it spits out the error.

Any suggestions or fixes from users that have encountered this problem?

DMA errors are easy to fix, simply uninstall your drive in Device Manager and reboot. DMA should be turned back on. CRC errors can occur due to copy protection not removed from the source and, in your case, I'd say a poor choice of media. Retry your project using Imgburn and post a log (good or bad) in this thread please.

DMA was enabled in the first place. (I verified on the device properties) PLUS this has occured on two different drives, so essentially the system removed and replaced the device automatically anyhow.

I've burnt approx 250 discs using the Memorex brand im using now, never experienced one failed disc until either SP1 or a Vista clean install i cant remember because i hadnt burnt a disc in a while

Copy protection could not be an issue since i was simply trying to burn images from my digital camera which have no copy protection mechanisms that would interfere. That's why i'm rather stumped at the sudden onset of this error combo.

I posted the above error ( DMA-driver error, CRC error ) in these forums weeks ago, and was provided suggestions as to its resolution.

Turns out the root cause was an old style IDE cable, I replaced it with the slightly newer 40-pin, 80-conductor IDE cable and this solved my issue.

Just incase anyone encounters this issue in the future.

mine is window vista home Basic Upgraded to window Vista Ultimate inspiron notebook 640m.for the last one month i cannot able to burn my CD/DVD with my Roxio 9 or Nero7 Every time it says Burning completed Successfully .But my CD/DVD was blank.it says to prepare Blank Disc.what is wrong?i can able to Read,listen,see my CD/DVD.pl.Help me.

A DMA error could also happen if your IDE Channel slipped into PIO mode instead of DMA mode. To check:

Click Start, Right Click My Computer, click Properties, click on Hardware Tab, click on Device Manager

Click on the + to the left of IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers to expand it, double-click on the IDE channel your CD/DVD is connected to, usually Secondary IDE.

The properties window will pop-up, click on Advanced Settings tab, your CD/DVD should usually be Device 0 with Device Type grayed out. Make sure all Transfer Modes are set to DMA if available and not PIO Only.

If you changed the transfer mode from PIO to DMA, you will need to restart your computer for this to take effect.
