Hi all,
I am looking for path of hosts file in vista x64...

I found solution to get for 32bit apps to see the 64-bit tree, search now find hosts file and i see it and can edit it. But before these solution i was unable to find hosts file.

Solution is taken from here:

Where is this file hidden and how to find it :).
If i run Notepad as administrator and try to browse that c\windows\sysnative directory i found noting :).
But TotalCommander find it and i can edit it and add that what i need. It just was weird :).

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc. You have to be logged in as the administrator to edit it. This prevents others from writing to it.

It could be a hidden file. I will check the path tonight and repost, if different.

You cannot see the hosts file thru the Sysnative folder unless you're using a 32-bit application. This is why it sometimes appears hidden.

While we are on the subject, I would like to mention some software that I have found to be very valuable. It's called "HostsMan" and can be found here: abelhadigital.com

It will allow you to block a lot of the nasty advertising and malware sites out there. You can update it from 3 different content providers and it will delete duplicate entries in your hosts file.

For those who don`t know, the computer looks at the hosts file first for an internet address before looking it up on the internet. (dumbed down a bit for ya). HostsMan will point the computer to itself when looking up addresses for advertising sites or malware sites. So when you are loading up a web page the computer sees itself when being pointed to malware sites. You will get a message in the web page that the information has been blocked. No more advertisements or going to malware sites by mistake!!

Woo!
And it`s free too. Gotta love that.

Snarks:cool:
