Cursor in my Vista

Hi,

I have asked for help in two forum but got no luck. I come here for my first time and hope some one can help me.

The coordinate of the cursor in my Vista is not at the tip of the arrow, instead it is at the tail of the arrow. When I click a file name, the file underneath would be opened; if move the cursor to the edge of IE, the double head arrow will apear at the bottom-left of the edge.

I know my mouse is good.

Any suggestion will be great appreciated.

Have you tried adjusting your mouse settings in the Vista Control Panel? If that does no good uninstall the mouse by going into Vista's Device Manager, right click on Mouse. Uninstall. Run Scan for New Hardware.

In the Vista Control Panel, I can see "Mouse" and then Mouse Properties. Which property I need to adjust?

My Computer

Your pointer speed should be about Medium. Enhance Pointer Precision ON Display Pointer Trails OFF HardWare : The Mouse type should be the same as the type of Mouse you are using. If you think it is different, don't change it there. Go to Device Manager and uninstall the Mouse. Vista should reinstall the correct one. Sometimes ghosting is caused by a driver conflict.

Hi,

I have tried uninstall it but the problem still existed.

More information:
I found this problem when the PC was brand new.
Sometins, in some situation, there is no problem.

You don't have any equipment specs in your profile, so I can't tell what hardware you have to advise you.

Well, that is nothing to do with hardware. I installed another Vista in another partition of the same PC and the cursor works fine there.

My Computer

Sorry mate. Can't help you as I can't see you really have a problem. The problem is obviously in a driver, either Mouse or Graphics Card. Or a Driver Conflict. Without any information I just can't advise.

I have the same problem with my cursor. I un-installed and re-installed the mouse with no change. I am currently using a Logitech mx1000 Bluetooth Laser mouse. I had the same problem with the standard Dell mouse that came with the computer. In addition, in the mouse settings, under the pointer options tab, I click the "enhance pointer prescision" option which seems to help, but for some reason, it unclicks itself after some period of time. I have spoken to Dell about this and they have no idea...

It's frustrating!

My Computer

Timeless,

I have solved this problem!
Just go to Dell site and download the updated server for the vidio card (not for the mouse!). You should check your vidio card version by your invoice or by your PC.

If you still get any problem in it, just tell me.

My Computer

OK, you can tell that I don't know alot of specifics about computers. Is it a driver that I need to download? I have an ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO 128MB video card. Dell lists a driver update called AMD-Driver wich applies to Radeon HD 2400 PRO (128MB PCI-Express x16 (DVI/VGA) RV610). Is this what I should download?
Thanks for your advice!

My Computer

Yes, go to
Drivers & Downloads=
ADM - Driver
Applies to:
Radeon HD 2400 PRO (128MB PCI-Express x16 (DVI/VGA) RV610)
Click "Download Now", you will get
AMD_RADEON-HD-2400-PRO--128M_A05_R188742.exe
Install that. Your cursor behaviours immediately changed without restar your PC!

I spent a long time to find it and would like to let every Dll User know it.....

My Computer

Hello marktwo, Glad you found the solution. As suspected it was a driver. So many of these problems relate to drivers or driver conflicts. A good reason for keeping your drivers up to date and a good starting point when troubleshooting.

NormCameron,

Thank you.
The strange thing is this problem exists in a brand new PC.
In webs I have found many Dell users got this same problem and some users reported it to Dell.
I believe Dell knew it. But they only say the importance of the updated driver is "optional".

My Computer

The problem with Dell, Hp and other big name Brand manufacturers is that they don't have a consistent component base. Their parts are sourced from many different suppliers and added, not based on quality or suitability but rather on price and availability. This makes it very hard for them to provide consistent and reliable technical advice and is also why these problems occur regularly in new computers produced by these Manufacturers.

Thank you Marktwo!I almost issued a MAYDAY...during the installation, my screen went blank for at least 20 minutes:eek: but it working now! Problem though..when I scroll down a page or pass the cursor over links, everything flickers. Any idea how to fix?

My Computer

Ack!! I restarted and the flickering is gone, but now everything is so much smaller than it was...I can't seem to find the settings for this...can anyone help?

My Computer

Hi,

Right click a blank area of the Desktop, select personalise and then display settings. See if adjusting monitor resolutions helps.

You can the change DPI by going back to personalisation window and select Adjust DPI settings (it's top left of the personalisation window).

Hope it helps
