Vista Backup and Restore runs but movie files aren't copied.

Vista Backup runs but some files aren't included.

I've been running Backups regularly using the Control Panel, Backup and Restore Center. I've recently noticed however that my movie files weren't being backed up.

The file type is '.MOD' saved by Panasonic camcorders.

The 'video' and 'additional files' boxes are checked in the settings dialog.

I spotted the problem after adding loads of movies to the computer and noticing the backup didn't need a new DVD (previous one nearly full) then I checked the backup files and '.MOI' files were copied from the folders but not the '.MOD' files.

Is there any way of getting the backup utility to recognise these files?

Thanks.

Still got this problem.

Can anyone help me with a way of defining which file types the backup will recognise.

Thanks

Hi,

As far as I know, you can't specify filetypes /extensions using Windows backup.

Seems not to recognise .mod files. You might try a different backup app. This free one might recognise that extension, and copy the entire file - worth a look

Hope it helps

The backup program in vista is very careful about unknown file types such the one you have .mod. Security feature to prevent backing up viruses and the like blah blah. If you must backup that format just download a script that will compres the mod files into a zip file which will get backed up by windows.

It resolved itself in the end!

My previous backups did not include '.MOD' movie files (I've double checked this!).

[I couldn't rename the file extensions as Movie Maker was pointing at a lot of them from movies that I'd created.]

Went the compression route for the folders containing '.MOD' files. This worked fine.

I suspect that a patch has been added to the system through Windows Update as my latest backup, from scratch, included the '.MOD' files!

I wonder what other file extensions it misses though! It would be good to see a list of files that backup decides not to do.

Thanks for your help.
