Vista Freezing during sleep/hibernate when external USB drive attached

I seem to be having a recurring problem that I can't figure out. My machine freezes almost every time it attempts to hibernate when my WD 120gb passport is connected. By freezing I mean that the screen is black and the machine power lights are on, but it won't respond and I have to hard boot it.

Are there any solutions other than turning off hibernate?

thanks

Maybe the computer is trying to boot from it.

I would say check for updated chipset drivers or usb drivers. Is your system designed for vista or xp?. If its for xp make sure you have the latest drivers for VISTA. Check your drivers and post back here for a update.
