Hi biertonco, and welcome to the vista forums

On vista x64 you should have both a Program Files and a Program Files(x86) folder

the Program Files is used for fully 64 bit programs and the Program Files(x86) is for 32 bit programs which will run in compatibility mode

This is totally normal and by design. :D

hope this helps

tyvm for the warm welcome and help. so has the foder changed name because i have installed a 32 bit programme because i do remember it being x64 before. yes i do however have a folder plainly named programmes. will 64 bit compatible programmes automatically be installed to this. last question does this now mean i am running 32 bit vista or is everything still running at 64 bit.

thanks again

Yes 64 bit programs will still install to the non (x86) folder. The Program Files (x86) folder was always there, you probably just never noticed it before.

And no you are not now on Vista 32 bit. Vista and any 64 bit programs are all still 64 bit.

First you are still running x64 :D just running a 32bit application in compatibility mode.
Vista provides a 32bit internet explorer as well as 64 bit so nothing to worry about.

as for the actual naming of the folders I'm not sure as I'm only running x86 vista at the moment.

you may want to check this tutorial article and the links at the bottom of the page for fuller details of x64
