Update or not to update Bios?

My motherboard is GA-X38-DS4 Bios F1 First Release.
I notice on the Gigabyte site that are some bios updates.

F1 First Release.
F2 ADD new version super I/O code,Improve CPU compatibility.
F3 Enhance memory performance.
F4e Beta bios.

So..now is it a good idea to flash/update bios or not and why?

Because BIOS flashing is potentially risky, if you do not encounter problems using the current version of BIOS, it is recommended that you not flash the BIOS. To flash the BIOS, do it with caution. Inadequate BIOS flashing may result in system malfunction.

What is a BETA?
BETA describes a new version that is reliable yet may not include all the features of the final product. During this phase we are previewing new features and gathering customer input to insure our product provides the best experience possible.

Update CPU ID/Micro codes in new BIOS means?
[1] To support new series of CPUs, or [2] To support the same CPU but with new stepping.
CPU support of motherboard is consist of BIOS and hardware design, detail CPU support information please see CPU support list.

If you are not having any problems then leave it well alone as it has the potential to kill your system if done wrong.

And boy howdy do I ever second that. I just got my laptop back from HP after a "reccomended" BIOS flash that went bad. I turned it into a paperweight, fortunately was still in warentee and they replaced the MB and sent it back.....but was without it for almost 2 weeks.

I learned my lesson there.....

That advice also applies to other hardware devices, such as routers, modems, graphics cards and optical drives - if they are working satisfactorily, LEAVE THEM ALONE! For example, if you need to flash your optical drive just because it cannot utilise a particular brand of disc, DON'T USE that brand.
